Enegery Procurement
U.S. Congress deregulated the energy industry in the late1990s by ordering that individual states’ local public utilities relinquish their exclusive right to market and sell their energy supply. This allowed the local public utilities to keep the exclusive right to make/generate electricity in their respective areas -which is the part of energy business the public utilities wanted to keep exclusively for themselves.
While it varies from state to state, most deregulated states allow the public utility to be the default supplier, with the 3rd party suppliers being an alternative supplier. However, some states either assign you a 3rd party supplier, (which you can switch out of) or require you to pick a 3rd party supplier from day one. Of course, there are more and slight other variations on these, depending upon the state. If you do not know how it’s done in your state, we can help you. Please call us at 646-946-5053 and 646-946-0227.
A little more than half of the states have begun deregulating their public utilities electric and/or natural gas supply. And this is precisely where you can save a lot of money.
THE SUPPLY RATE
The supply rate is typically the largest single line item of your electric and gas bills, typically running anywhere for 50 to 80+% of the total bill’s face cost. But now, in all the states that have thus far deregulated energy (either their electricity or gas or both), you can shop for alternative suppliers. Therefore, you can change your electricity and/or natural gas supplier, without changing your public utility, or bill.
It’s simply math. If your public utility is charging you 15 cents per KWh, and an alternative energy supplier is offering you 10 cents per KWh, of course you’d likely want to switch your supplier.
These alternative suppliers are called 3rd party energy suppliers. And they essentially compete for your energy supply business: the right to charge you for your electric and/or natural gas supply. What JMJ Power does is to introduce you to a plethora of various 3rd party alternative energy suppliers, in such a fashion as to cause the various suppliers to bid on your utility bill supply rate. Our reverse bidding process can be quite competitive. It serves to drive down the pricing that would be normally offered to you from the various suppliers, into a lower rate.
In other words, going directly to a 3rd party supplier does not automatically mean you’ll get the lowest rate. If you go to just one or two suppliers, you’ll really have no idea how they stack up to the other, say 10 to 15 + suppliers active in your marketplace, you’re not obtaining quotes from. Thus, the only way to determine which supplier is actually lowest, is to have them all bid against each other for your energy supply business.
JMJ Power is able to provide you with professional assistance, by introducing you the customer to 3rd party alternative supplier rates and terms, and guidance in contracting with them.
